CoverageDecoder™ Terms of Use
Effective date: September 10, 2026
Please read these Terms of Use ("Terms") carefully. They are a binding agreement between you and CoverageDecoder LLC, a Maryland limited liability company ("CoverageDecoder," "we," "us," "our"), governing your access to and use of coveragedecoder.com and related services (the "Service"). By checking the acceptance box, purchasing a report, or otherwise using the Service, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.
1. What CoverageDecoder is - and what it is not
CoverageDecoder is an educational tool. Depending on the option you choose, it either (a) asks you guided questions about your situation and generates a personalized educational report about insurance concepts relevant to answers you provided, or (b) additionally reads the insurance document you choose to provide and explains, in everyday language, what that document appears to say.
The Service is not advice. This is the most important part of these Terms:
- CoverageDecoder is not a licensed insurance producer, agent, or broker, and your report is not insurance advice. We do not recommend specific policies, carriers, coverage amounts, limits, deductibles, or endorsements for your situation; we do not tell you whether your coverage is adequate; and we do not sell, solicit, negotiate, place, or bind insurance.
- CoverageDecoder does not provide claims advice or public-adjusting services and is not a licensed public adjuster. It does not evaluate whether any settlement or offer is fair, recommend demand amounts or negotiation strategy, draft communications to insurers, or predict the outcome of any claim. Public adjusting is a licensed activity in Maryland and most states, and we do not perform it.
- CoverageDecoder does not provide legal, financial, or tax advice and is not a law firm, financial advisor, or accountant.
- CoverageDecoder is not a substitute for your licensed insurance agent or broker, a public adjuster, an attorney, or any other licensed professional. Every report directs you to discuss its contents with your licensed agent, because they - not we - are the right professional for any coverage decision.
What the Service does: it provides general educational information about how residential insurance commonly works, personalized to the answers and, if provided, the document you supply - together with questions you may choose to ask your licensed agent. Any decision about your insurance is yours alone, made at your discretion and risk, in consultation with your own licensed professionals.
2. Your policy governs - not our explanation of it
The Service can only be as accurate and complete as the information and documents you provide. If you provide partial answers, a partial or outdated document, a quote, a draft, or a document superseded by an endorsement or renewal you did not provide, your report may be incomplete or inaccurate for your actual, in-force coverage. Your insurance policy, as actually issued by your insurer - including all endorsements - controls over anything the Service tells you. Where a report describes how policies "commonly" or "typically" work, actual policies vary by carrier, form, endorsement, and state; only your own policy and your licensed agent can confirm what applies to you.
3. AI-generated output and its limits
The Service uses artificial intelligence to generate reports. AI can be wrong, even when it sounds confident. Output may contain factual errors, omit material context, misread the document or answers you submitted, describe provisions that do not appear in your document, or apply general patterns to your situation in ways that do not fit. Educational content about state laws and market practices reflects our research as of the verification date shown in the report and may not reflect subsequent changes in law or practice.
You are solely responsible for: (a) reading the output critically; (b) verifying anything important against your actual policy documents and with your licensed agent or another qualified professional before acting; and (c) every decision you make or do not make based on the output, whether or not the output proves accurate. You acknowledge that you were clearly informed before purchase that output is AI-generated and may contain errors, and that you assume the risk of inaccurate output.
4. Eligibility; acknowledgment
You must be at least 18 years old and able to form a binding contract. Before beginning, you must affirmatively accept these Terms by checking the agreement box. We record the time of acceptance, the Terms version, and a session identifier as evidence of agreement. We do not ask for or record your name at that step. You are responsible for the accuracy of the information you provide. If you submit a document belonging to another person (for example, a family member's policy), you represent that you have their permission.
5. Your content; license; privacy
You retain all ownership of the answers and documents you submit ("Your Content"). You grant us a limited, non-exclusive, royalty-free license to process Your Content solely to generate and deliver your report. Uploaded policy content is processed transiently and is not retained after your report is generated, as described in our Privacy Policy (incorporated into these Terms). You agree not to submit: content you lack the right to share; unlawful or infringing content; another person's confidential information without permission; or attorney-client privileged material (uploading privileged material to any third-party service may affect the privilege; if you do so, you accept the consequences).
6. Acceptable use
You agree not to: use the Service for any unlawful purpose; use the Service or its output to provide legal, claims, public-adjusting, financial, or insurance advice to others as if it were your own professional service; attempt to make the Service produce output it is designed to decline - including coverage recommendations, adequacy determinations, settlement-fairness opinions, demand amounts, or claim-outcome predictions - or attempt to circumvent, disable, or probe the Service's safeguards or security; scrape or harvest data, upload malware, reverse-engineer the Service, or use it to build a competing product; resell, sublicense, or redistribute reports as a commercial service except under a written agreement with us (e.g., a bulk-code program); misrepresent your identity; or bypass payment or rate limits. We may suspend or terminate access for conduct that violates these Terms or that we reasonably believe risks harm to the Service, to us, or to others.
7. Purchases and billing
Prices for one-time reports are shown on the site before checkout and may change prospectively. Payments are processed by Stripe; we never see or store your card number. Promotional codes are subject to their stated terms, are single-use unless stated otherwise, and may be modified or withdrawn at any time. We do not display fake or perpetual "discounts." Refunds are governed by our Refund Policy (incorporated into these Terms).
8. Intellectual property
The Service - including its software, design, text, report structure and wording, the Fine Print™ character, the CoverageDecoder™ name, logos, and branding - belongs to CoverageDecoder LLC and is protected by intellectual-property law. We grant you a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to use the Service and to keep and use your reports for your own personal, non-commercial purposes. You may share your report with your own agent, household, or advisors; you may not resell it or the Service.
9. Third-party services
The Service relies on third-party providers (hosting, database, AI inference, payments, email, analytics) and may link to third-party resources, including state insurance department websites. We are not responsible for third-party services or content. Insurance documents and carrier communications originate with your insurer; we only read what you provide - we do not verify, endorse, or take responsibility for their contents.
10. Disclaimers
THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE," WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, WHETHER EXPRESS, IMPLIED, OR STATUTORY, INCLUDING IMPLIED WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, ACCURACY, CURRENCY, TITLE, AND NON-INFRINGEMENT. WITHOUT LIMITING SECTION 1, WE DO NOT WARRANT THAT ANY REPORT, FINDING, QUESTION LIST, EMAIL DRAFT, OR OTHER OUTPUT IS ACCURATE, COMPLETE, CURRENT, OR SUITABLE FOR ANY DECISION, OR THAT THE SERVICE WILL BE UNINTERRUPTED, SECURE, OR ERROR-FREE. YOUR ACTUAL POLICY, AS ISSUED BY YOUR INSURER, CONTROLS OVER ANYTHING THE SERVICE TELLS YOU. Some jurisdictions do not allow the exclusion of certain warranties, so some of the above may not apply to you.
11. Limitation of liability
TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, COVERAGEDECODER LLC AND ITS MEMBERS, MANAGERS, OFFICERS, EMPLOYEES, AND CONTRACTORS WILL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, EXEMPLARY, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, OR FOR ANY LOSS OF PROFITS, DATA, GOODWILL, OR INSURANCE BENEFITS, COVERAGE, OR CLAIM OUTCOMES, ARISING OUT OF OR RELATING TO YOUR USE OF (OR INABILITY TO USE) THE SERVICE OR ANY DECISION MADE IN RELIANCE ON OUTPUT, EVEN IF ADVISED OF THE POSSIBILITY OF SUCH DAMAGES. TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, OUR TOTAL CUMULATIVE LIABILITY FOR ALL CLAIMS RELATING TO THE SERVICE WILL NOT EXCEED THE AMOUNT YOU ACTUALLY PAID US FOR THE SPECIFIC REPORT GIVING RISE TO THE CLAIM. Some jurisdictions do not allow certain limitations; nothing in these Terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law.
12. Indemnification
You agree to defend, indemnify, and hold harmless CoverageDecoder LLC and its members, managers, employees, and contractors from and against any claims, damages, losses, liabilities, costs, and expenses (including reasonable attorneys' fees) arising out of or related to: (a) your use or misuse of the Service; (b) any decision you or a third party made, or failed to make, in reliance on output; (c) your sharing or redistribution of output; (d) Your Content, including any claim that you lacked the right to submit it; or (e) your violation of these Terms or applicable law.
13. Mandatory pre-dispute notice; dispute resolution
Pre-dispute notice. Before initiating any chargeback, arbitration, or legal action, you are required to first send written notice of the dispute to support@coveragedecoder.com, including your Stripe receipt or session ID, a specific description of the claim, and the relief requested, and to allow thirty (30) days for informal resolution. Initiating a payment-processor dispute without first completing this step is a material breach of these Terms; we may contest any such chargeback with evidence of your acceptance of these Terms and delivery of the Service.
Arbitration and class-action waiver. Any dispute arising out of these Terms or the Service will be resolved by binding individual arbitration administered by the American Arbitration Association under its Consumer Arbitration Rules, and not in court, except that either party may bring an individual action in small-claims court, and either party may seek injunctive relief in court to protect intellectual-property rights. You and we each waive the right to a jury trial and to participate in any class, collective, or representative action. You may opt out of arbitration by written notice to support@coveragedecoder.com within 30 days of first accepting these Terms. The Federal Arbitration Act governs this section. If the class waiver is found unenforceable as to a claim, that claim (and only that claim) proceeds in court.
Governing law and venue. These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Maryland, without regard to conflict-of-laws rules. For matters not subject to arbitration, the state and federal courts located in Maryland have exclusive jurisdiction, and you consent to venue there.
14. Changes; termination; miscellaneous
We may modify the Service or these Terms; material changes take effect on the effective date of the revised Terms (a fixed date we will update at publication), and continued use after changes take effect constitutes acceptance. You may stop using the Service at any time; sections that by their nature should survive (ownership, disclaimers, limitation of liability, indemnification, dispute terms) survive termination. Force majeure: we are not liable for failure or delay caused by events outside our reasonable control, including internet or cloud-provider outages, AI-provider outages, cyberattacks, acts of God, or changes in law. Assignment: you may not assign these Terms without our consent; we may assign them, including in connection with a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets. Severability; waiver; entire agreement: if any provision is unenforceable, the remainder stands; failure to enforce is not waiver; these Terms plus the Privacy Policy and Refund Policy are the entire agreement and create no third-party beneficiary rights.
